Sponsor Harvey's Travels and see how far he travels

Harvey

Harvey is already well travelled, but he's now travelling to raise money for The Number 38 Bus. He's trying to travel through 25 countries, ending up in Ethiopia in October.

We need people to pledge, not just watch. This hound is putting himself out big style, covering thousands of miles in the name of charity. Come on, sponsor him for each country he visits.

Rugby Tournament in Ethiopia 1st November

Past Events

Music Fest

This took place at the Rugby Club, Teignmouth on Friday, 19th September. The two bands helped to make a great atmosphere. A BBQ and raffle helped to make a great £1300 towards the project! A lot of hard work from Charli the orgaiser made this event a great success. There is still a small sum to come in and so the final total could be £1500 - well done Chaz Peg!

Charity Abseil - from viaduct near Monsal Dale, Derbyshire, September 20th
He has very nearly reached a magnificant £1000 total. This of course will double up with his matched funding, and the Gift Aid will make this the highest contributor to the trip - well done Kev!

Pub Quiz - Dorothy Inn 14th September

This event was run by Ian Tibble and raised £550 which included a raffle.

Oktober Fest - Police Bar, Weymouth, September 5th

Helga and Fritz

It was a fun night at the police bar. The Chief Bus Conductor dressed in lederhosen and false moustache had certainly turned a few eyes. The Interior Minister dressed as Helga, a buxom wench, strangely were the only ones in fancy dress. A log on stilts was made to reproduce an Austrian/Bavarian pub game of hammering nails in with the pointy end of a hammer. At 25p a nail, it proved to be very interesting as the night progressed. The record was 3 knocks - the nails were 100mm long and this raised about £70!
Bratwurst and pretzels along with Sauerkraut was the fayre on offer and washed down with liberal quatities of Wheat Beer and Pils. An enjoyable and profitable evening was had by all - about £200 raised altogether.

6th Annual Rugby Tournament - Weymouth Rugby Club September 7th

This has turned into an annual event with fierce competitive games being played by who ever turns up on the day. The Chief Bus Conductor had been contacted by about 15 players for the Police Team. There were also another half dozen who had said they 'might' show up. Needless to say, none of this last group did show up and he was let down by another 4, giving him only 11 players. The doorstaff team were even worse off with only 4. In the end we were forced to reduce the tournament from 4 teams to 3. The police team were soundly beaten in both matches and lost a number of players to injury to boot. A BBQ was on offer during the afternoon along with much interest in the38bus that was parked in the car park. The evening presentation attracted fewer people than in previous years in spite of the addition of The Minister of Security having his body waxed. About £900 was raised which included a prize raffle in the evening.

Full Body Waxing - Dorothy Inn September 7th

Once the body waxing table came out, the barman, Jim, offered to have his beard waxed off if £100 could be raised. It duly was and the screams and abuse left ears ringing for a long time afterwards. John braved the wax well, even letting 6 or 7 of us wax him at the same time. He whimpered and howled a bit when his chest and inner thigh received the treatment, but otherwise, the port and Jack Daniels appeared to have done the trick. Just over £200 has been collected so far for John's efforts with other pledges still to be collected. Not bad considering the turnout. By the time we set off, he will be scratching like a dog with fleas.

Beach Snow Skiing -  Sea Front, Teignmouth, 24th August

The Interior Minister skiied along the promenade at Teignmouth ably assisted by several friends and several Grandchildren. The cardboard bus made by Nikki and Vicky was worn by Caroline and Ella in fine style and Sean and Kath were demon collectors. The Minister of Cooking Utensils took lots of great pictures of the event. The start and finish took place at The Ship Inn, thanks to Kim and Vannessa and a fairly large crowd. Although the weather was slightly cloudy at times a reasonable number of people were persuaded to part with their cash en-route on the beach and throughout the area. Just over £400 was raised, along with a few pledges to swell the bus coffers. Legs are still stiff so walking around has been reduced to a shuffle.
Big thanks to all who supported the event and to Chris Banting at CLIC Sargent, without which, the event would not have been possible.

Car Boot Sale

The Minister of Cooking Utensils had a hot day out in Paignton selling all her rubbish, goods, er 'quality merchandise', after driving to Exeter to be told that it was now being held in Paignton, some 20 miles away! Thanks also to Minor Morris Jayne and Kath 'superneighbour' Grantham. £108 earned towards the bus trip.

Jewellery Party
Last month The Minister of Cooking Utensils was involved in selling hand made silver jewellery to friends, family and colleagues in Newton Abbot. The event was a little gem that raised £70 for the bus. She plans another in the near future so if you want some for Xmas presents watch this space for the next date.

Rowing the River Teign

Lucy 'Mumsie' Howard has been rowing the length of the River Teign in South Devon and has now completed the 50km. This was a challenge in her local gym and she had to undertake this by visiting the centre on 12 occassions. She managed to raise £360 for The Bus Trip and was very pleased to be one of only a few to have finished. She was particularly pleased as she was the only Great Grandparent taking part. Well done 'Mumsie'!

Near Naked Skiing in La Tania, France

Cold nipples then?

One evening over our chalet dinner in La Tania, France a discussion took place about Adz raising money for the bus trip. 'The Cat' volunteered to ski semi naked down the Folyeres. Quickly people pledged him money. A time and day was set. On Thursday at 4pm after a days skiing - there was no going back now. After a few more wines had been swallowed another member of the party agreed to accompany Adz on his journey but on the conditon that he did it wearing a bra. Apparently to protect his nipple rings! A bra was found quickly and the event was sealed before either could change their minds. Mumsie was instrumental in collecting money from the finishing line - the bar at the bottom. The Interior Minister was charged with filming the event. There was defiantely some strange looks as 'the couple' descended the run. Supporters on the slope included some of the chalet staff and the rest of our holiday party. You can watch the video which is in two parts here and here. The event raised £360. Not bad for 4 minutes skiing!

Paintballing and BBQ

The Chief Bus Conductor organised an afternoon of running around in Bere Woods in glamourous overalls, getting dirty, sweaty and coated in brightly coloured paint. 55 participants turned up to chase each other through the trees for the afternoon. Afterwards, Jim and Lucy laid on a BBQ and raised a further £110 in the process, on top of the £275 from the participants.

Drinking the Route

Bus girls drive a hard route

This event was held at the police bar in Weymouth and 'travellers' had to purchase a drink from each country on the route. The beverages were concocted by The Chief Bus Conductor. Each person was given an exit stamp after visiting each country. On completion of the route they were entitled to a free tee-shirt, which many travelers wore with pride! This event also include a bottle raffle and we managed to raise £282. Thank you to all our 'travellers' who took part.
